What Does “…Rabbi heb lî mines sâlihîn” Mean?
Duʿā (supplication) is a slave’s acknowledgment of his powerlessness before the majesty of Allah and making a loving request for help. The importance of duʿā is emphasized in verses and ḥadīth, with meanings including “to call out,” “to desire,” and “to seek assistance.” Verses like “And invoke your Lord with reverence and fear (and) hope; and without exceeding the limits thereof…” (Al-A‘rāf, 7:56) and ḥadīths such as “There is nothing more precious in the sight of Allah than duʿā” (Tirmidhi, Adab, 1; Ibn Majah, Dua, 1) demonstrate the virtue of supplication.
