What is the Meaning of the “Rabbi innī e‘ūzu bike…” Dua?
Dua (Supplication) is a servant’s acknowledgement of their powerlessness before Allah’s majesty and making a loving request for help. Linguistically, it means “to call out” or “to ask,” and encompasses all forms of entreaties, from the minor to the major. Making dua is an important act of worship encouraged in verses of the Quran. As stated in “Fear Him and implore Him with hope.” (Al-A’raf 7:56) and “There is nothing more precious in Allah’s sight than supplication.” (Tirmidhi, Duawāt, 1; Ibn Majah, Dua, 1), these hadith emphasize its significance.
The Arabic Recitation and Meaning of the “RABBİ İNNÎ EÛZU BİKE…” Dua
Surah Hud: Verse 47
Recitation: “Rabbi innī e‘ūzu bike en as’aluka mā laysa lī bihī ‘ilm(ilmun), wa illā taghfir lī wa tarhamnī akūn min al-khāsirīn.”
Meaning: “O my Lord! I seek refuge in You from asking you for that which I have no knowledge of. And if You do not forgive me and have mercy on me, then surely I shall be among the losers.” This dua is a beautiful example of humility and turning to Allah.
