The Meaning and Importance of the Rabbi Zidni İlmen Supplication
Supplication (dua) is the servant’s confession of their helplessness before the majesty of Allah, and, with feelings of love and reverence, seeking His grace and help. The word “dua” (supplication) encompasses the meanings of “to call, to address, to ask, and to request help”; it is generally used as a plea and entreaty from the lesser to the greater, from below to above. The act of supplication is praised and encouraged in verses (āyāt) and hadiths. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Call upon Him in fear and aspiration.” (al-A‘rāf, 7:56) In another hadith, it is stated: “There is nothing more noble in the sight of Allah than supplication.” (Tirmidhi, Da‘awāt, 1; Ibn Mājah, Du‘āʾ, 1)
