Kâ’b bin Ucre -may Allah be pleased with him- narrates:
HOW TO SEND SALAVAT UPON THE PROPHET?
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked by one of his companions:
“–O Messenger of Allah! We have learned how to greet you, but we do not know how to send blessings upon you.”
The Prophet (PBUH) taught the following supplication:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلٰى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰى (اِبْرٰهِيمَ وَعَلٰى) اٰلِ اِبْرٰهِيمَ ، اِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلٰى مَحَمَّدٍ وَعَلٰى اٰلِ مَحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلٰى (اِبْرٰهِيمَ وَعَلٰى) اٰلِ اِبْرٰهِيمَ ، اِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
“Say: «O Allah! Bestow blessings upon Muhammad and his family, as You bestowed blessings upon Abraham and his family. Indeed, You are worthy of praise and glory. O Allah! Grant goodness and blessings to Muhammad and his family, as You granted goodness and blessings upon Abraham and his family. Indeed, You are worthy of praise and glory!» ” (Bukhari, Du’a, 32; Tirmidhi, Vitr, 20; Ibn-i Maja, Ikama, 25)
