How to Perform the Seyyidü’l-İstiğfar Prayer?
Repentance and seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) is an important act of worship that a Muslim can perform at every moment of their life. Especially, seeking Istighfar in the early hours of the morning brings great benefit. The Exalted Allah has praised those who turn to Him and seek forgiveness in the early mornings in the Holy Quran. (51/Zariyat, 18.)
Among the supplications for repentance and Istighfar, the most virtuous is the “Seyyidü’l-İstiğfar” prayer taught by our Prophet (peace be upon him). This prayer is a significant plea for the forgiveness of sins.
SEY YİDÜ’L-İSTİĞFAR PRAYER
Seyyidü’l İstiğfar in Arabic
اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Seyyidü’l İstiğfar Recitation in Turkish
“Allâhümme ente rabbî lâ ilâhe illâ ente halaktenî ve ene abdüke ve ene alâ ahdike ve va’dike mesteta’tü eûzü bike min şerri mâ sane’tü ebûü leke bi ni’metike aleyye ve ebûü bizenbî fağfirlî feinnehû lâ yeğfirü’z-zünûbe illâ ente.”
Seyyidü’l İstiğfar Meaning:
“O Allah! You are my Lord, there is no deity worthy of worship except You. You created me and I am Your servant. To the best of my ability, I am upon the covenant and promise I made to You in eternity. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I confess to You Your blessings upon me, and I confess my sin to You, so forgive me; for indeed, it is You who forgives sins.”
