Sheikh Abdullah Sert explains the short but highly rewarding dhikr that the Prophet (PBUH) recommended to Mother Jowayriyah (RA).
Short and Virtuous Dhikrs Recommended by Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
One day, after performing Fajr prayer, Mother Jowayriyah (RA) was sitting in the place where she prayed. The Prophet (PBUH) emerged early from his home. When he returned to his house at midday, he saw that Mother Jowayriyah was still sitting in the same spot:
“Have you been occupied with dhikr since I left?” he asked. The esteemed mother replied, “Yes.” Then the Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The four sentences that I recite three times after leaving you would be equal in reward to the dhikr you have recited from morning until now:
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ عَدَدَ خَلْقِهِ وَرِضَا نَفْسِهِ وَزِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ وَمِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ
(Sübhânallahi ve bihamdihi adede halkıhî wa rıdâ nefsihi wa zînete arshihi wa midâde kelimâtihi)
“I glorify Allah and praise Him to the number of His creation, as much as He is pleased with Himself, equal to the weight of His Throne, and to the measure of the ink of His words.” (Muslim, Dhikr, 79)
