Subhaneke Prayer: Recitation, Meaning, and Reasons
According to the narration of Lady Aisha (r.a.), our Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) would recite supplications such as “Subhâneke âllahümme ve bi hamdik ve tebârakesmük ve teâlâ ceddük ve lâ ilâhe ğayrûk” when beginning prayer. The meaning and importance of this valuable supplication are immense. (Shawkânî, Nayl al-Ibtâr, II/195)

سُبْحَانَكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالٰى جَدُّكَ (وَجَلَّ ثَنَآئُكَ) وَلاَ اِلٰهَ غَيْرُكَ
Recitation
“Subhâneke âllahümme ve bi hamdik ve tebârakesmük ve teâlâ ceddük (wa jalla thana’uk*) wa lâ ilâhe ğayrûk.”
Note: The phrase “Wa jalla thana’uk” is recited only in funeral prayers.
Meaning
“O Lord! I absolve You from all imperfections and shortcomings. I praise You with Your praises, and Your name is blessed. Your majesty is sublime, and Your glory is magnificent. There is no deity besides You.” With this supplication, emphasis is placed on Allah’s greatness, and we turn towards Him.
