How to Pray for Guidance? The prayers made by our Prophet (PBUH) for his Ummah to find guidance…

Rasulullah -sallahu alayhi wa sallam- made many supplications for the guidance of his Ummah. These supplications are important acts of worship, encompassing a request for guidance both for himself and all Muslims.

SUPPLICATION FOR GUIDANCE

He supplicated with, “O Allah! Turn their hearts towards us!” (Tirmidhi, Manakib, 71/3934) for the guidance of the people of Yemen. This supplication is a sincere plea for Islam to reach different cultures and communities.

Regarding the Taifites, who stoned Him from their towns and resisted fiercely until the ninth year Hijri, causing much loss to the Muslims, he supplicated to Allah with, “O Lord! Grant guidance to the Saqif tribe! Send them to us!” (Ibn-i Hisham, IV, 134; Tirmidhi, Manakib, 73/3942). This is an example of supplications made for even enemies to attain guidance.

Again, the Most Excellent of Creations -sallahu alayhi wa sallam- when sending Hz. Ali (RA) as a judge to Yemen, placed his hand on his nephew’s chest who was worried about the responsibility of the task he undertook and made this supplication:

“O Allah! Guide his heart to righteousness, and make his tongue firm upon truth.”

Hz. Ali (RA) says:

“After this prayer, I never hesitated when judging between two people.” (Ibn-i Maja, Ahkam, 1). This hadith demonstrates the effect of supplication on a person’s heart and work.
