The Tawbah & Istighfar Dua Recited One Hundred Times in a Gathering by the Prophet (PBUH)
Ibn Umar -may Allah be pleased with them both- said:
“We would count the Messenger of Allah –peace and blessings upon him– repeating in one gathering, one hundred times:
“O Allah! Forgive me and accept my repentance! Indeed, You are the Most Accepting of repentance and the Most Merciful.” (Abu Dawud, Witr, 26/1516; Tirmidhi, Adab, 38/3434)
The Prophet –peace and blessings upon him– performed Tawbah (repentance) and Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) not because of a mistake, but to draw closer to Allah Almighty and gain His pleasure. Our Prophet –peace and blessings upon him– was constantly progressing spiritually, so he always sought forgiveness for his previous state and station.
