The Time of Prayer and Response
One of humanity’s greatest weaknesses is expecting their desires and prayers to be fulfilled instantly. When what they want is delayed, they quickly fall into despair, rebel against fate, and feel a hidden resentment towards their Lord. Abdülkadir Geylânî (q.s.) reminds believers that haste is a demonic trait, warning: “If you are hasty, you will be a soldier of Satan. Careful action and patience are inspired by God.” The hasty person cannot see where they stand in the divine plan, nor can they understand what is intended. The delay of prayer is a divine respite for the servant to mature in their servitude.
Submission to the Flow of Fate
Every matter has an eternal appointed time (ecel) with Allah, and not even a leaf stirs until that time arrives. To be impatient about Allah’s actions and decrees is to question His absolute wisdom. Geylânî Hazretleri states, “The judgment given by the past (fate) is not against us… We must strive. The manifestation of action occurs as He wills,” emphasizing that the servant should only do their duty and patiently await the outcome. It is beyond the servant’s power to force or delay a decree written in eternity.
Safety at the End of Patience
The servant who waits for the manifestation of divine decree with tranquility and deliberation experiences spiritual purification. The saying, “Patience calls for help; it elevates man. It makes man noble,” is the greatest reward for abandoning haste. Those who face difficulties and persevere with patience will receive an endless reward in the afterlife, even if they see their prayers not fulfilled in this world. A heart that submits to the will of the Lord and can say, “I am content with whatever comes from You,” sails on a sea of absolute safety and peace, even in the stormy world.
