THE PRAYER OF ABDÜLKADİR GEYLANİ (K.S.)
O God! Grant us the grace to behave with good manners, both towards You and towards Your chosen servants. Do not afflict us with the affliction of relying on means and distrusting reliance upon You! Establish us firmly upon our faith and trust in You! Make us independent of all but Yourself and the presentation of our needs only to You! Do not examine us by our own words and deeds! Do not punish us for their sake, but pardon us with Your generosity, grace, and leniency.
O God! O Creator of all beings! O Originator of causes! Deliver us from the bond of associating others with You in worship and creation.
O God! Do not make me or those who ask for prayers dependent on anyone but Yourself! Let us be dependent only upon You. Let us be independent through You, remember You alone, and ask of You alone.
O God! We all desire You. We long for You. But calamities and obstacles cut off our path and prevent us from reaching You.
O God! Awaken us from the sleep of heedlessness. Let some of us benefit others. Engage us only with Yourself, so that our souls may be reformed. Show our souls the way to You, and let us spend the remainder of our lives engaged in Your path.
O God! Save us from destruction, we desire nothing but nearness to You. In this world and in the Hereafter, we desire only to gaze upon You with our hearts in this world and with our eyes in the Hereafter.
O God! Turn all people towards Your door. This is my sole and eternal wish. Everything belongs to You, it is Yours. Let this be a means for me to earn merit.
O God! Return us to ourselves. Keep us standing before Your door.
O God! Make us for You, in You, and with You. Make us happy through service to You. Let all that we take and give be only for You. Purge our hearts from being a dwelling place of love other than Yours. Do not let us be in places You forbid; do not lose us to ourselves in the places You command. Protect our outward selves from sinning against You, and protect our inward selves from associating others with You. Take us out of the hands of our own desires! Save us and bring us to You. Let all our actions and movements be only for You. We place our trust only in You, we rely only on You. Awaken us from the misery of being unmindful of You. Clothe us with the garments of obedience, worship, and supplication. Let us taste the pleasure of nearness to You in our hearts and souls.
Just as You have separated the heavens from the earth, so separate us from our sins. Keep us far from sin.
Just as You brought together the black and white of the eye, so bring us close to Your servitude and obedience to You. Separate us from sin. Just as You separated Joseph (peace be upon him) and Zuleika in the matter of disobedience to You.
O One Creator! Make us among those who testify to Your Oneness, those who unite with You! Save us from those who hinder us from following Your path. Make us among those chosen by You!
Confirm our claims with the proofs of Your grace and mercy. Purify our hearts. Ease our affairs, make them easy for us. Let us have communion only with Yourself. Protect us from communion with anyone but You. Make all our sorrows one sorrow! And let that be nearness to You.
Let no sorrow be found in us except the thought of being close to You in this world and the Hereafter! Amen.
