The Meaning and Importance of the “Rabbi Innī Zalamtu Nafsī…” Dua
Dua (supplication), is the servant’s confession of their own incapacity before the greatness and exaltedness of Allah (God), and their request for His grace and help in a spirit of love and reverence. The word “dua” (dua) encompasses the meanings of “calling, addressing, requesting, and seeking help”; it is generally used to refer to a request and entreaty made from the lesser to the greater, from below to above. The act of making dua has been praised and encouraged in the verses (āyāt). The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Call upon Him with fear and hope.” (al-A‘rāf, 7:56) Also, “There is nothing more noble in the sight of Allah than dua.” (Tirmidhī, Da‘awāt, 1; Ibn Mājah, Dua, 1)
