What Dhikr Did Our Prophet (peace be upon him) Recite?
Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up for night prayer, he would recite ten times…
The Dhikr Recited by Our Prophet (peace be upon him) Upon Rising at Night
- “Allahu Akbar”
- “Alhamdulillah”
- “SubhanAllah wa bihamdih”
- “Subhanal-Maliki’l-Quddus”
- “Astaghfirullah”
- “La ilaha illallah” and then again ten times:
He repeats “Allahu Akbar”, “Alhamdulillah”, “SubhanAllah wa bihamdih”, “Subhanal-Maliki’l-Quddus”, “Astaghfirullah” and “La ilaha illallah.”
Completing the Dhikr with Prayer
Our Prophet (peace be upon him) then continues his prayer by saying “Allahu Akbar” and makes the following supplication: “Allahumma inni a’uzu bika min sharri hazihî wa a’uzu bika min fitnati’l-layli wa an nuhushi’l-harir” (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of this and I seek refuge in You from the trials of the night and from bad dreams). He then begins to pray. (Abu Dawud, Adab, 101/5085)
