Information Regarding the Prophet’s (PBUH) Night Remembrances
THE REMEMBRANCES THE PROPHET (PBUH) PERFORMED AT NIGHT
According to Aisha (RA), the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would recite the following remembrances when he rose for night prayer: repeating ten times “Allâhu ekber,” “elhamdülillâh,” “sübhânallâhi ve bihamdih,” “sübhâne’l-meliki’l-kuddûs,” “estağfirullâh,” and “lâ ilâhe illâllâh.” Then, he would again recite ten times:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ ضِيقِ الدُّنْيَا وَضِيقِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of this world and the distress of the Day of Resurrection.” Then he would begin praying. (Abu Dawud, Adab, 101/5085)
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would remember his Lord with remembrance in every situation – when hopeful, when fearful, when feeling distressed, when relaxed, while resting, working, walking, sitting, and both at night and during the day. He also advised his companions and ummah to act in the same manner.
