Information Regarding the Prophet’s (PBUH) Night Remembrances
THE PROPHET’S NIGHT REMEMBRANCES
According to Hz. Aisha (RA), the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would perform the following remembrances when he rose for night prayer: He would repeat ten times “Allâhu ekber,” “elhamdülillâh,” “sübhânallâhi ve bihamdih,” “sübhâne’l-meliki’l-kuddûs,” “estağfirullâh,” and “lâ ilâhe illâllâh”, then he would recite the following supplication ten times:
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ ضِيقِ الدُّنْيَا وَضِيقِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the distress of this world and the distress of the Day of Resurrection.” Then, he would begin prayer. (Abu Dawud, Adab, 101/5085)
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would remember his Lord with remembrance at times when he was hopeful, when he feared, when he suffered distress, when he felt comfortable, while resting, while working, while walking, and while sitting; He would remember Him in every situation, day and night. He also advised his companions and ummah to do the same.
