The Supplications Recited by Our Prophet (PBUH) in Ruku and Sujud

In this article, we will examine a significant supplication that Our Prophet (PBUH) recited during ruku or sujud, narrated by Hadrat Aisha (RA).
Source and Meaning of the Hadith
The hadith narrated from Hadrat Aisha (RA) recounts a search for our Prophet (PBUH) one night when he was not present, followed by Him reciting a supplication during ruku or sujud:
“I missed the Prophet (PBUH) one night and thought he might have gone to one of his wives. I started searching, then returned and found him in ruku or sujud, saying:
“(Allahumma) Subhanaka wa bi hamdik. La ilaha illanta.”
Upon this, I said (slightly embarrassed):
“My father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! I am preoccupied with one matter, and you are occupied with another!”” (Muslim, Salat, 221)
Meanings and Importance of the Supplication
- Tasbih: The phrase “Subhaneke” means to absolve Allah from all imperfections.
- Hamd: The phrase “wa bi hamdik” means to offer thanks to Allah for His countless blessings and virtues.
- Tawhid: The phrase “La ilahe illallah” constitutes the most important part of the declaration of Tawhid (the oneness of God) and affirms that there is only one God, Allah.
This supplication is an important example demonstrating Our Prophet’s (PBUH) deep devotion to Allah and His turning towards Him.
