What is the Month of Sha’ban? Its Significance and What to Do

Acts of Worship and Prayers During the Month of Sha’ban

- Reciting the supplication “Allâhümme bârik lenâ fî Şaban ve belliğnâ Ramazan” (O Allah, bless us in Sha’ban and enable us to reach Ramadan) at least once a day is an important intention to seek reaching the month of Ramadan.
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Sha’ban is my month, Rajab is Allah’s month, and Ramadan is the month of my community.” This highlights the importance of this month. [Referencing prophetic tradition]
- The Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) fasted most frequently in the month of Sha’ban after the month of Ramadan. Therefore, fasting during Sha’ban is also recommended.

- In this month, the names of those who will die within a year are recorded in registers. This is important for preparing for the afterlife and remembering the reality of death.
- Night of Bara’ah (Laylat al-Bara’ah): It is recommended to fast during the day and spend the night in worship on the Night of Bara’ah, which falls in the middle of Sha’ban, and perform twenty rak’ahs (units) of prayer.
- The month of Sha’ban is a time when doors of goodness are opened and sins are forgiven. Therefore, we should turn to our prayers with hope.
- It has been narrated in a hadith sharif that if one fasts on the last Monday of the month, their sins will be forgiven.
- Giving Zakat (obligatory charity) is beneficial in Sha’ban as preparation for Ramadan and to support those in need.
