The Virtue of Acting Upon the First Ten Verses of Surah Al-Mu’minun
There is an important hadith regarding the virtue of acting upon the first ten verses of Surah Al-Mu’minun. This hadith contains glad tidings that those who strive to live in accordance with these verses will enter Paradise.
“…WHOEVER ACTS UPON WHAT THESE VERSES CONTAIN WILL ENTER PARADISE”
According to a narration from Hadrat Umar (ra), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recited prayers while facing the Qibla, raising his hands during one of His extraordinary states of revelation:
“O Allah! Increase Your blessing upon us, do not diminish it; honor us, do not disgrace us; bestow upon us, do not deprive us; make us distinguished (over our enemies) and do not render us weak; be pleased with us and let us be pleased with You!”
After reciting these supplications, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Ten verses have just been revealed to me; whoever acts upon what these verses contain will enter Paradise,” and then recited the first ten verses of Surah Al-Mu’minun. (Musnad I, 34)
THE FIRST 10 VERSES OF SURAH AL-MU’MINUN
- Indeed, the believers have succeeded;
- Those who are present in their prayers;
- Those who turn away from worthless talk;
- Those who give zakah (obligatory charity);
- And those who guard their private parts;
- “…Those [believers] who fulfill their covenants and obligations;
- And those who perform the prayer.
- These are the ones who will inherit Paradise;
- (Yes), they will reside therein eternally.” (Surah Al-Mu’minun, 1-11)
