The Virtue of Reciting Salat al-Sharif on Fridays

One of the most virtuous remembrances (dhikr) is sending salawat (blessings and peace) upon the Prophet. Especially reciting salawat on Fridays holds a unique significance.

The Virtue of Reciting Salat al-Sharif on Fridays (Explanation with Hadith)

Rasulullah -peace and blessings be upon him- said:

“–The most virtuous day is the Friday… Therefore, send abundant salawat and peace upon me on that day, for your salawat and peace are presented to me.”

Upon this, the companions (Sahabah) asked:

“–O Messenger of Allah! How will our salawat and peace reach You after Your death and when no trace of you remains?” The Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him- replied:

“Allah the Exalted has forbidden that the bodies of prophets decay.” (Abu Dawud, Salat 201/1047, Witir 26)

The Reminder of Hazrat Ali

Regarding the virtue of consistently sending salawat and peace on Fridays, Hazrat Ali -may Allah be pleased with him- said:

“Whoever sends one hundred salawat upon the Prophet on Friday will appear on the Day of Resurrection at the place of judgment with a very beautiful and radiant face. People will look at each other with envy, asking, ‘What deeds did this person perform?’” (Bayhaki, Shu’ab al-Iman, III, 212)
