The Virtue of Reciting the Noble Salawat on Fridays
Among our most virtuous remembrances is sending salawat (blessings) upon the Prophet. Especially reciting salawat on Fridays holds a unique significance.
THE VIRTUE OF RECITING THE NOBLE SALAWAT ON FRIDAYS
The Messenger of Allah -peace and blessings be upon him- said:
“–The most virtuous day among your days is Friday… Therefore, send abundant salawat and peace upon me on that day, for your salawat and peace are presented to me.”
Upon this, the companions (Sahabah) asked:
“–O Messenger of Allah! How will our salawat and peace reach You after Your death and when no trace of you remains?” The Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him- replied:
“–Allah the Exalted has forbidden the bodies of prophets from decaying.” (Abu Dawud, Salat 201/1047, Witir 26)
Statement of Hazrat Ali
Regarding the virtue of consistently sending salawat and peace on Fridays, Hazrat Ali -may Allah be pleased with him- said:
“Whoever sends one hundred salawat upon the Prophet on Friday will appear on the Day of Resurrection at the place of assembly with a beautiful and luminous face. People will look at each other with envy and ask, ‘What deeds did this person perform?’” (Bayhaki, Shu’ab al-Iman, III, 212)
