The Prophet (Peace and Blessings be upon him) Said “Amen” to Three Supplications While Ascending the Pulpit
Kâ’b bin Ucre -may Allah be pleased with him- narrates:
The Prophet’s (Peace and Blessings be upon him) Saying “Amen” to Three Supplications and Their Meaning
The Messenger of Allah –peace and blessings be upon him– one day commanded his companions;
“Approach the pulpit!”
They approached. When he reached the first step, he said:
“Amen!”
When he reached the second step, he again said:
“Amen!”
And when he reached the third step, he said in the same manner:
“Amen!”
When he descended from the pulpit, they asked:
“O Messenger of Allah! Today we heard things from you that we have not heard before. (What is the wisdom behind this?)”
The Prophet –peace and blessings be upon him– said:
“Gabriel -peace be upon him- appeared to me and said, ‘May one who reaches Ramadan and whose sins are not forgiven be far from Allah’s mercy!’ I said, ‘Amen!’.
When I ascended the second step, he said, ‘May one who is mentioned along with your name but does not send blessings upon you be far from Allah’s mercy!’ I said, ‘Amen!’.
When I reached the third step, he said, ‘May one who has a parent or both parents age and does not please them so as to enter Paradise be far from Allah’s mercy!’ I said, ‘Amen!’. (Hakim, IV, 170/7256; Tirmizi, Du’a, 100/3545)
