Supplication (dua, dua [supplication]) is the servant’s confession of their own incapacity in the face of Allah’s majesty and exaltedness, and their request for Allah’s grace and help with feelings of love and reverence. The word dua (dua [supplication]) carries meanings such as “to call, to address, to ask, and to seek help,” and is most often used in the sense of “a request and plea made from the lesser to the greater, from below to above.” Making supplication is praised and encouraged in verses (āya) and hadith. “Call upon Him in fear and aspiration.” (al-Aʿrāf, 7/56) “There is nothing more noble in the sight of Allah than supplication.” (Tirmidhī, Daʿawāt, 1; Ibn Mājah, Dua, 1)
