When and Why is Hacet Prayer Performed? How to Make a Hacet Dua?
As Muslims, we turn to Allah for our needs in this world and the hereafter. One of the supplications made to fulfill these needs is the hacet prayer (prayer of need). While hacet prayer isn’t an obligatory act of worship, it’s a valuable means of expressing desires in one’s heart. It is performed after two nafilah (supererogatory) prayers offered after the Isha (night) prayer, sending blessings upon Allah, offering salutations to our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and then reciting the hacet prayer with the hope that one’s wishes will be fulfilled.
HOW TO PERFORM HACET PRAYER
The hacet prayer taught by our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) expresses sincere intention and turning to Allah. Here is the supplication:

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الحَلِيمُ الكَرِيمُ، سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ رَبِّ العَرْشِ العَظِيمِ، الحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ رَبِّ العَالَمِينَ، أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَالغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرٍّ وَالسَّلاَمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثْمٍ لاَ تَدَعْ لِي ذَنْبًا إِلاَّ غَفَرْتَهُ وَلاَ هَمًّا إِلاَّ فَرَّجْتَهُ وَلاَ حَاجَةً هِيَ لَكَ رِضًا إِلاَّ قَضَيْتَهَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.
Pronunciation
“Lâ ilâhe illâllâhu’l-halîmü’l-kerîm. Sübhânellâhi Rabbi’l-arşi’l-azîm. Elhâmdü lillâhi rabbi’l-âlemîn. Es’elüke mûcibâti rahmetike ve azâime mağfiretike ve’l-ğanîmete min külli birrin ve’s-selâmete min külli ismin lâ teda’lî zenben illâ ğaferteh wa lâ hemmen illâ ferrecteh, wa lâ hâceten hiye leke ridan illâ kadaytehâ yâ erhamerrâhimîn.” (Tirmidhi, Salat, 348.)
Meaning
“There is no god but Allah, the Forgiving, the Generous. Glory be to Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne.
O Allah! I ask You for what leads to Your mercy and what obligates forgiveness from You, and for gain in every act of righteousness and safety from every sin. Do not leave a sin for me except that You forgive it, nor a worry except that You relieve it, nor a need that is pleasing to You except that You fulfill it, O Most Merciful of the merciful!”
(Tirmidhi, Salat: 343; Ibn Majah, Iqamah, 189)
After reciting this supplication, it is sufficient to ask Allah for your desires related to this world and the hereafter. Remember that we must be sincere in our prayers and have trust (tawakkul) in Allah.
