Bismillahillezi La Yedurru Dua
This powerful dua (supplication) is recited three times in the morning and evening, protecting the reciter from harm, unexpected accidents, and calamities. Let’s learn this important information from a hadith:
According to the narration of Osman b. Affan -may Allah be pleased with him-, the Prophet Muhammad -peace and blessings be upon him- said:
“If a person says three times in the morning and evening:
Arabic Text:
Transliteration:
“Bismillâhillezî lâ yedurru ma’asmihî şey’ün fi’l-ardi velâ fi’s-semâi wa hüve’s-semî’u’l-‘alîm.”
Meaning:
“In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm except His will. Nothing can cause harm on earth or in heaven without His leave. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
(Abu Dawood, Adab, 110; Ibn Majah, Du’a, 14; Tirmidhi, Dawawat, 13)
This honorable hadith was heard by Ebân -may Allah be pleased with him-, the son of Osman b. Affan -may Allah be pleased with him-, and narrated by him. One day, Ebân -may Allah be pleased with him- suffered a stroke. Someone who heard this hadith from him began to look at Ebân’s face. Noticing this, Ebân -may Allah be pleased with him- said: “Why are you looking at me like that? I swear by Allah that I did not fabricate anything in the name of Osman, and Osman did not fabricate anything in the name of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). But on the day I had a stroke, I became angry about something and forgot to recite this dua.” (Abu Dawood Adab 101/5088)
