The Veil Between Appearance and Reality

Although the moth experiences the pain of burning, its love for the beauty of the candle compels it to this sacrifice. Similarly, one who seeks truth should not abandon the endeavor to understand the Divine Being despite the difficulties and hardships of worldly life. On this journey, reason may be transcended, even leading to uncertainty; but this is a sign that one is on the right path. The seeker of truth must constantly strive to know oneself and continue progressing despite personal flaws.
Veils and Light: Manifestation of the Divine Being
In Mevlana’s teachings, veils are symbolic elements that cause us to be unable to fully comprehend the Divine Being. This situation, explained by the example of the sun, exists so that we can benefit from its light, but prevents us from looking directly at it. Similarly, the manifestation of God is also limited by veils; otherwise, it would be an intensity that humanity could not withstand. Thanks to these veils, we receive and benefit. Mevlana states that the truth itself will be harsh, but that these veils protect us. Humanity must combine patience and gratitude in order to fully understand the Divine Being; for reaching Truth is a continuous process of learning and self-improvement.
