The Source of Paradise’s Blessing
The teachings of Abdülkadir Geylânî (may Allah be pleased with him) point to the source of true happiness, beyond worldly blessings. The peace and joy that saints attain upon departing this world is a reflection of their devotion to God, not merely their own merits. This understanding reminds us that this life is a field of trial; for the true paradise is a reward for turning towards God and earning His pleasure. To reach true happiness, one must embrace virtues such as patience, gratitude, and submission to God. Allah’s mercy is boundless; however, being worthy of it is possible only through the effort of the servant.
The Importance of Effort and Love for Humanity
Geylani’s advice emphasizes the importance of humans exerting themselves and working diligently. Honor and success are earned not by seeking refuge in empty dreams, but with hard work. However, this effort must be sincere and the intention pure. A heart filled with love for humanity brings one closer to God; yet, there are limits to this love. One should dedicate oneself to God, focusing on His pleasure. Freeing oneself from the desires and whims of the ego, being just and honest in relationships with others, are the cornerstones of spiritual development. Avoiding self-admiration and possessing humility are indicators of being worthy of God’s grace.
The Secret of Death and Proximity to God
Geylani interprets the concept of “death” as abandoning worldly desires and passions, killing the ego. In this sense, death is a transformation; it is for humans to detach from their selves and draw closer to God. Listening to Allah’s commands, giving up hope in means, and placing His pleasure above all else are signs of being considered “dead.” True resurrection arises from this spiritual mortality; because man finds true life by turning towards God. Stripping away existence with the Kalima (Declaration of Faith) and donning the attributes of God is the key to paradise. Having faith and sincerity is the most effective way to protect oneself from the fire of hell; for faith restrains one from evil and illuminates them with divine light.
