The Importance of Inner Order

In Sufi thought, it is emphasized that true peace and spiritual maturity require primarily a deep purification of our inner world. As we learn from the works of Abdülkadir Geylani, sincerity is more important than outward displays, and turning towards neediness is more valuable than seeking festivity. The real effort lies in filling our hearts with love for Allah and weakening all ties other than Him. This is not something that can be easily achieved; it requires patience, perseverance, and constant inner struggle. We must pay as much attention, or even more, to the voice within our inner world as we do to external appearances, and purify our intentions.

A Sincere Life Dedicated to Allah

Geylani’s advice reminds us that worship should not be merely a ritual act but should be carried out with an understanding that encompasses every aspect of life. In every prayer, our wish is to live in the awareness of His presence and to convey our request for help with sincerity. This means turning towards Allah not only at specific times but in all our waking moments. The Prophet’s advice, 'Worship Allah as if you see Him,' encourages us to serve Him by feeling Him deeply within our hearts. We can reinforce this sincerity by earning a livelihood through lawful means and keeping our thoughts and behaviors clean.

Patience, Hope, and Commitment to Truth

In the spiritual journey, it is essential to face difficulties with patience, balance hope and fear, and avoid excessive desires. Avoiding extreme expectations and eliminating doubts are important steps towards this goal. As Sufyan-i Savri saw in a dream, true salvation comes through submission to Allah. Following the teachings of the Prophet, we can reach the right path by adhering to the book and the Sunnah. In this journey, we should seek guidance from those who possess insight (irfan) and draw inspiration from their lives. Let us remember that Sufism comes from purity; disciplining the self is possible only by filling our hearts with love for Allah.
