External Attachments and Inner Freedom

The teachings of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi focus on an individual freeing themselves from external limitations and progressing towards inner freedom. While the pleasures, relationships, and achievements offered by the visible world may temporarily satisfy us, they are ultimately impermanent and can even restrict a person. Like the whirling of a dervish, the flow of life is also constant movement; however, true freedom comes from transcending this cycle. This means abandoning all dependencies, reaching unconditional love, and ultimately turning towards God (Allah). Rumi’s teaching invites us on a journey into the infinite expanse of our inner world; in this journey, our hearts open and we meet our true selves.

The Power of Words: Hidden Effects and Divine Communication

Rumi depicts the power of words as a sun; although invisible, its effects touch our lives. Words are not merely tools for communication but also instruments that warm hearts, illuminate minds, and transform souls. Every word has an effect; this effect can either foster love and tolerance or incite hatred and animosity. However, what is most important is to grasp the divine truth beyond the words themselves. Words are, in fact, a subtle veil through which God’s grace reaches the human heart; to transcend this veil, we must purify our hearts and attain inner stillness.

Awakening from Obliviousness: Seeing the Truth

Rumi emphasizes that humanity is caught in oblivion (gaflet) and that this obliviousness distances them from reality. When immersed in worldly affairs, it becomes difficult to hear our inner voice and we become disconnected from truth. However, with a moment of awakening, we can see the reality behind the superficiality of the world. This awakening allows us to notice clues about God’s existence; just as an arrow is held in hand, yet controlled by a greater power. With this understanding, we grasp the meaning and purpose of life, which directs us towards an ocean of endless love. Rumi’s teaching is a call to awaken from oblivion and see the truth.
