A Moment Like Prophet Khidr Amidst Difficulties

In one of Jalaluddin Rumi’s stories, we encounter a figure who is swept away by water and in need of rescue. This situation is an allegorical reflection of the spiritual journey where humanity struggles with the captivity of the ego and is in need of divine help. The man’s helplessness represents the state of a person writhing in the clutches of worldly desires; the children’s cries represent the reaching out of a compassionate hand. However, salvation comes through surrender, not force. This moment of surrender is a miracle that occurs ‘by God’s hand’ and elevates the individual to a higher level of consciousness.

The Compelling Power of Divine Love

Rumi depicts divine love as a fishing rod; just like a fisherman’s tackle, this love gently draws the human soul and purifies it. The difficulties and pains experienced during this process are the pangs of purification and maturation. With the power of love, one transcends the boundaries of their self, abandons pride, and progresses towards truth. The constant pulling and releasing action emphasizes the importance of patience and gratitude; because divine love is not hasty, it requires time. This is a story of a process, a transformation, and signifies a deepening of spirituality at every step.

Attaining Truth and the Importance of Awareness

Rumi’s teachings draw attention to the unity of different beliefs. While everyone seeks their own truth, they are actually turning towards the same source. However, in order to see this reality, one must possess a discerning understanding; that is, being able to distinguish what is true from what is false. Rumi states that a small number of knowers contain the knowledge of all humanity. This shows that the truth can be simple and straightforward, but understanding it requires deep awareness. Ultimately, in the spiritual journey, patience, gratitude, surrender, and awareness are the fundamental elements that purify our souls and lead us to divine love.
