The Mask of External Display
Imam Ghazali, a profound master of Islamic ethics and Sufi thought, eloquently expresses the traps of the self and how humans are veiled by worldly desires. Sincerity in the Quest for Truth

Methods in the Struggle with the Self
Imam Ghazali emphasizes the importance of methods such as remembrance (dhikr), reflection (tafakkur), and surrender (tawakkul) in the struggle against the commanding self. Dhikr is one of the most effective ways to turn the heart towards Allah. Reflection helps a person know themselves and understand the secrets of the universe. Surrender is trusting in Allah and being content with His decree. Through these methods, humans can discipline their selves, rid themselves of bad habits, and live more virtuous lives. Ghazali’s advice offers important moral lessons that remain relevant even in today’s world.
