Faith Manifests in Action, Not Just Words
The teachings of Abdülkadir Geylânî clearly demonstrate that faith is not a superficial declaration. It is more than a belief expressed with words; it reveals itself through actions demonstrated in challenging situations. The strength of faith is tested when we face demonic influences or negativity; being able to remain steadfast in this test is a sign of true faith. To strengthen our faith, we must be patient and resolute, focusing on increasing our inner strength rather than making claims. True worship occurs with sincerity from the heart; acts performed wholeheartedly, away from ostentation, nourish our souls.
Respect and Love: A Debt of Gratitude to the Creator
In Sufi understanding, respecting everything and loving the creator of existence is an important moral value. As Geylânî emphasizes, one must seek His love in order to love something; for love is a gift from God. We can only love and be loved by His permission. This perspective allows us to distance ourselves from attachment to worldly beauty and see all beings as centered around the creator. The Prophet (P.B.U.H.)’s love of fragrance, women, and prayer is one way to gain God’s love; it was first relinquished and then made lovable by our Lord. This shows that we can reach spiritual maturity by disciplining the ego and surrendering to Him.
Disciplining the Ego and Turning Towards God
True salvation is possible only through purification from the nafs-i emmare (the commanding self). Geylânî’s advice encourages us to stop chasing worldly pleasures and focus on filling the inner void. Abandoning laziness, staying away from lust, and not being indifferent to God’s commands are steps that purify our souls. We must dedicate ourselves to Truth, break free from the expectations of people, and live a life belonging to the afterlife. We must divest ourselves of all we possess and leave our strength in His powerful hand and run towards Him. As we progress on this path, our inner wealth will increase, external difficulties will not affect us; thus, we attain a blessed life through God’s grace.
