The True Value Beyond Outward Display
A theme frequently emphasized in the works of Mawlānā Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī is the search for true value behind the splendor and ostentation of the external world. This situation, symbolized through the authority of the king and his relationship with the stoker, in fact represents the awakening of a person against the illusions within their own inner world. True humility is a virtue that can surpass even kings; for respect and love in the hearts must be deserved independently of external factors. Through this symbolic narrative, Mawlānā invites people to turn away from ostentation and to seek inner richness.
The Deceptive Power of Delusion and the Eye That Leads to Reality
The concept of ‘wahm’ (delusion, mistaken imagination) holds an important place in Mawlānā’s teachings. Wahm is error, deception; it is the subjective perceptions that cause a person to stray from reality. People’s delusions can separate them from the path of reality and mislead them. Mawlānā warns on this matter, advising people to listen not to their own delusions, but to the cries of their qalb (the heart). To see reality requires an inner observation; and this is only possible through humility, sincerity, and divine love. Otherwise, a person may find themselves lost in empty dreams and deceptions.
Patience and Perseverance on the Path of Reality
The example of Shaykh Salāh al-Dīn, found in Mawlānā’s works, demonstrates the necessity of sabr (patient endurance) and perseverance on the journey toward reality. Attaining reality is not easy; one may encounter obstacles and difficulties. Mawlānā counsels not to lose heart or give up even in such situations. The advice of Shaykh Salāh al-Dīn is that a person should develop themselves, learn from their mistakes, and constantly seek the right path. Progressing on the path of reality is, in a sense, a process of spiritual construction; in this process, it is necessary to work with sabr, perseverance, and determination. Otherwise, a person may be deprived of the light of reality.
