The Manifestation of Tawhid: The Connection Between Prayer and Associating Partners with God

Allah’s generosity is one of His most beautiful names, and this generosity manifests especially through sinners. Ibn Arabi states that there is no one more generous than Allah; however, to understand this generosity, we must first know our own sin. This indicates that generosity carries a message of mercy and forgiveness towards great sins. Humanity provokes its Lord, realizing the potential to reach His generosity; for it is only through encountering great errors that one can truly grasp His magnitude. Allah’s generosity makes humanity aware of their sin and renders them worthy of forgiveness, which encourages progress on the path of repentance and purification.
Seeing the Truth: The Reflection of the Monotheist in Distress
Ibn Arabi expresses that distress is a mirror that turns people towards Tawhid. While signs of associating partners with God are concealed during times of ease, the heart turns to the Oneness of its Creator during moments of hardship and difficulty. This indicates that even someone who appears to associate partners with God is, in fact, a monotheist during times of trial. However, understanding this truth requires not overlooking reality with ease and allowing internal distress to lead us towards Tawhid.
