Abu Muhammad Hasan Ibn Ali Ibn Abu Talib, may Allah be pleased with him and his parents, said: I recall the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: “Leave what causes you doubt and look to that which does not. For the heart finds tranquility in truth and suspicion of falsehood.”

Hasan Ibn Ali Ibn Abu Talib, the Prophet’s beloved grandson, was born in Ramadan during the third year of the Hijrah. The Prophet gave him the name Hasan and the kunyah (nickname) Abu Muhammad. He grew up under the Prophet’s close connection, affection, and upbringing. He is the fifth Rashid Caliph. In order to ensure unity among Muslims, he relinquished his right to the caliphate in favor of Muawiyah. He was a generous and wise man.
What We Learn
- 1It is necessary to stay away from suspicions and turn towards what is permissible. This ensures protection from falling into sin.
- 2One should stay away from matters that “do not feel right” or “do not warm the heart.” Heartfelt inclination is a special measure for everyone. The hadith-i sharif, “Even if Muftis give fatwas, look to your heart!” (Ahmed Ibn Hanbal, Musnad, IV, 194) should always be the standard.
- 3Muslims who are full of respect for Allah avoid minor sins out of fear of falling into major sins.
