Ascending from Nafs-i Emir to Tawhid

Love and Truth: The Two Faces of the Journey
The concept of love (muhabbet) lies at the heart of Yesevi’s teachings. Love is not only about loving God, but also seeing the manifestations of God in all creation. This love softens hearts and draws a person into the sea of Truth. However, to avoid drowning in this sea, one must purify oneself with ‘tawba’ (repentance) and strengthen oneself with ‘zikrullah’ (remembrance of God). On the path to reaching truth, it is important to follow the footsteps of the enlightened ones, learn etiquette and manners. Otherwise, one deviates from the spiritual path and distances themselves from truth. Yesevi announces that closeness to God is possible at the end of this long and arduous journey.
