Hadith
It is narrated from Ummu Salama, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “I am only a human being. You all come to me for judgment. Perhaps one of you is more skillful and eloquent in presenting his case than the other. And I judge based on what I hear. Whoever I rule in favor of, taking his brother’s right, I have set aside for him a piece of Hell.”

What We Learn
- 1The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, is a human being.
- 2The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is innocent of transmitting the revelation, avoiding prohibited acts, and falling into sin.
- 3The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, rules according to outward appearances and in accordance with the rules stipulated by Sharia in matters for which no revelation has been revealed to him. This ruling is a just ruling based on outward principles. It cannot be said that the person who judges has erred if the witnesses have lied or sworn falsely.
- 4Whoever takes another’s right through unjust means deserves Hell in the Hereafter.
