Abu Abdullah Jabir ibn Sumura, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, said: “I used to pray with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. His prayers and his sermons were of moderate length.”

What We Learn

1. 1A person leading a prayer for a congregation should keep the prayer short and not prolong it.
2. 2One praying alone can prolong it as much as they wish.
3. 3The sermons of Friday and Eid prayers should not be long enough to tire people out.
4. 4Keeping congregational prayers short and avoiding lengthy sermons is part of the Sunnah (practice) of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
5. 5Moderation in worship, avoiding extremes, is an essential aspect of religion.
