Hadith
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whenever a Muslim – or a believer – performs ablution and washes his face, all sins he has looked at with his eyes are washed away by the water – or the last drop of the water. When he washes his hands, all sins he has grasped with his hands are washed away by the water – or the last drop of the water. When he washes his feet, all sins he has walked with his feet are washed away by the water – or the last drop of the water. Thus, that believer is cleansed of his sins.”
Muslim, Tahâret 32. Also see Tirmizî, Tahâret 2.
What We Learn
- 1Ablution cleanses a person not only from physical impurities but also from spiritual impurity – sins.
- 2If a person uses each of his limbs in ways pleasing to Allah and avoids committing sins knowingly and intentionally, the acts of worship he performs atone for unintentional mistakes and minor sins.
- 3In ablution, if one is not wearing socks (masts), it is necessary to wash the feet as well.
- 4It should be remembered that our acts of worship have not only visible and known benefits but also many spiritual wisdoms.
