Hadith
It is narrated from Osman İbni Affân may Allah be pleased with him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever says three times in the morning and evening, ‘Bismillâhillezî lâ yedurru mea’smihî şey’ün fi’l-ardı velâ fi’s-semâ’ wa hüve’s-semîu’l-alîm: In the name of Allah, under whose name nothing can harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,’ nothing will harm him.”

Narrator
One of the concise supplications that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, taught us to seek help from Allah and to take refuge in Him from every creature that causes harm is this prayer. In order for one who recites this prayer to benefit from it, we learn from an expression within the prayer what kind of belief he should have. That is, the statement: “Allah, under whose name nothing can harm on earth or in the heavens.” Thus, the person reciting the prayer must first and foremost have such faith in Allah and recite the prayer with a sincere intention. By mentioning both earth and sky in the prayer, refuge is sought from the harms of earthly creatures and calamities that may come from the heavens to the Exalted One. This hadith was narrated by Ebân, the son of Hz. Osman. One day, Ebân suffered a mild stroke, and someone who heard this hadith from him began to insistently look at Ebân’s face. Ebân realized the situation and told the man that he somehow forgot to recite this prayer that day. Ebân, a muhaddis (narrator of hadith), faqih (jurist), and former governor of Medina for seven years, demonstrates the importance given by that blessed lineage to this profoundly meaningful supplication by reciting it regularly every day.
