Fear and Greed: The Devil’s Gate
There are many traps in Islamic morality that can shake faith. As mentioned in the works of Imam Ghazali, greed and fear of poverty open an important door for Satan to enter the human heart. This fear prevents giving (charity), drives the person towards selfish accumulation, and ultimately leads them to acquiring wealth without distinguishing between halal and haram. As emphasized in the Holy Quran, such behaviors can lead to severe punishment; because sharing sustenance is one of the fundamental elements of faith and is considered a blessing from Allah.
Adam’s Whispers: Fear of Poverty
After Hz. Adam was deceived by Satan, the sprouting of fear of poverty in the human inner world has brought about a constant struggle. Satan’s most powerful weapon is to make people excessively attached to their possessions. Satan, who penetrates the heart with this whisper, leads the person into false beliefs, distances them from truth, and can even cause them to doubt their Lord. This fear, which darkens the human inner world, also negatively affects social relationships, leading to alienation from life.
Prejudice and Sectarianism: A Shadow on Faith
In addition to excessive attachment to material wealth, prejudice and sectarianism are also important factors that can weaken faith. Attributing superiority over others to an Islamic scholar or companion figure, blindly adhering to their teachings, is actually a way Satan tries to differentiate people. For example, preferring Hz. Abu Bakr to other companions, avoiding what is forbidden, or not staying away from lies, can cause a person to deceive themselves and try to mask their piety. The most important thing is to adopt the universal morality of Islam, follow the example of our Prophet (PBUH), and love and respect all Muslims equally.
