The Heroism of the Prophet and Duldul at Hunayn

Abu’l-Fazl Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Hunayn was fought alongside the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was riding a white donkey named Duldul, while I and Abdulmuttalib’s grandson Abu Sufyan ibn Haris never left the Prophet’s side, peace and blessings be upon him. When Muslims and polytheists clashed, the Muslims began to retreat. At that time, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was driving Duldul relentlessly into the disbelievers. I tried to hold Duldul’s reins to prevent it from entering the battlefield. Abu Sufyan clung to the Prophet’s camel’s saddle. At this point, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “O Abbas! Call out to those at Bay‘at al-Ridwan!” A man with a loud voice, Abbas, continued his speech: “With all my strength, I cried out, ‘Companions of Bay‘at al-Ridwan! Where are you?’ By Allah, when they heard my voice, they turned towards the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, coming as if a calf comes to its mother. They said, “Labbaik! Labbaik!” (Here I am! Here I am!)” and fought against the disbelievers. The Ansar called each other to war, saying, ‘O tribe of the Ansar! O tribe of the Ansar!’ Then help was requested only from the Hazaraj tribe. At that time, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, looked at their clashes while reaching forward on Duldul, saying, “This is when the oven is heated!” Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, picked up a few pebbles and threw them towards the faces of the disbelievers. After that, he said: “I swear by the Lord of Muhammad, they are defeated.” I went to look at those fighting. As far as I could see, the battle was continuing as it had started. By Allah, after the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, threw stones at the disbelievers, I saw their strength diminishing and things turning against them.
