Beyond Existence: A State of Unity
Deep spiritual experiences reflected in the works of Abdülkadir Geylânî invite us to reconsider humanity’s relationship with Allah. Geylânî encourages us to transcend worldly existence, almost by disregarding the non-existence of all creation, and merge with the Divine. This emphasizes the importance of self-abandonment and overcoming the limitations of the ego. Forgetting the self completely and turning towards Allah is the first step in reaching the ultimate purpose of existence; because it opens the door to resolving all complexities and illusions.
Being Just: Transcending the Nafs-i Âdem
Geylânî’s teachings not only show how to be united with Allah, but also how to become a just being by transcending the self. By disregarding the ego and becoming one with creation, humanity observes justice and acts compassionately towards others. This approach eliminates selfishness, increases tolerance, and ultimately delivers people from consequences, directing them toward an eternal existence; which is the foundation for attaining everlasting happiness in the afterlife.
Jihad and Self-Accounting: The Cornerstone of Spirituality
In Islamic ethics, jihad (inner struggle) and self-accounting are an integral part of reaching spiritual maturity. The importance of these two concepts is particularly emphasized in Geylânî’s works; because they help a person win the battle with their ego and draw closer to Allah. Avoiding oaths, rejecting lies, keeping promises, refraining from cursing others, and purifying oneself of sinful thoughts are signs of spiritual transformation. A person who adopts these virtues gains respect in this world and attains high ranks in the afterlife, as these qualities bring one closer to divine mercy and contribute to becoming an exemplary individual in society.
