Hadith
Narrated by Asim ibn ‘Ubaydillah from Abdullah ibn Sirjis, may Allah be pleased with him: He said: I said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “May Allah forgive you.” He replied, “And may He forgive you.” Asim ibn ‘Ubaydillah said that Abdullah ibn Sirjis told me: Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ask for forgiveness on your behalf? He said, “Yes, he asked for forgiveness on your behalf,” and recited the following verse: “ (O Prophet!) Ask forgiveness for yourself and the believing men and women.”

What We Learn
- 1Allah Almighty has given the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the task of praying for the forgiveness of his Ummah.
- 2By entrusting this duty to him, Allah Almighty has shown His value for him and demonstrated His love and mercy for his Ummah.
- 3The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, taught us an Islamic etiquette by reciprocating with prayer to someone who prays for him.
- 4Praying for the elderly is a more intelligent move than saying, “Pray for us.”
