Hadith
Abu Musa al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard a man praising another person and going to great lengths in his praise. He then said: “You destroyed him (or broke the backbone of the man).”

What We Learn
- 1Praising someone in their face when there is fear that they will become conceited, arrogant, spoiled, and fall into discord is forbidden.
- 2It is not objectionable to praise virtuous people whose arrogance and spoiling are not feared.
- 3Flattery, bootlicking, and megaphoneism are undesirable traits in our religion.
- 4When praising someone, the qualities he possesses should be mentioned, his intentions, what passes through his mind, and what he hides in his heart should be left to Allah, and no one should be declared innocent with definitive expressions before Allah.
