Concerning the path by which a person may perceive the Creator’s existence through their own body.

Beloved! It is known that the people of insight have said: When a person carefully observes their own body, they know the existence of their Creator and become "a knower of God." If one were to reflect upon how, when there was no trace or sign of this body, it now exists and is perceived, and if one were to contemplate one’s own creation, surely one would know that previously there were two drops of sperm. There was neither flesh nor fat; neither bone nor vein; neither blood nor life; neither intellect nor understanding. But through the perfect creation of God, subsequently a number of marvels appeared outwardly and a number of subtleties inwardly, and it attained its share of being adorned with numerous skillful limbs and a beautiful constitution. For when a person understands this, they surely know that there exists in all the atoms of the universe a Creator possessing power over them all, influencing them all, and initiating action within them. He knows the outward and inward aspects of all things and encompasses everything. His power, wisdom, and mercy continually proceed perfectly in every body, in every limb, in every atom, at every time.

The more a person contemplates the perfection of their bodily structure and the multitude of functions of their limbs, the greater will be their knowledge of the Creator and their love for their Lord. They know that all the organs, senses, powers, sciences, arts, and skills found within the human body in limited and numbered quantities are gifts and generosity from the Presence of God to humankind. They understand that all these things come from the compassionate mercy of the Exalted God, His protectiveness encompassing everyone. As He has said in His Eternal Word: "Indeed, Allah is Affectionate and Merciful to mankind" (Bakara, 2/143). The Most Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah is very merciful to His servant; more compassionate than a mother nursing her child,” thus proclaiming that the Exalted God is Lord of the worlds and the most merciful of those who show mercy. Such knowledge of existence can only become a key and mirror for knowing Him, the Living and Loving One (Allah), through this understanding.

O God! Bestow upon us the insight and knowledge of self-awareness through Your nearness in the visible world, from our own bodies! O Most Loving One!

**Nazm (Poem)**

1. Existence is divine generosity, a life-giving grace; breath is a gift of mercy, speech an ancient bounty. The body is God’s edifice, the soul a noble breath; capacities and senses are deposits of power, qualities the gifts of the Wise. If I knew what I am in this workshop, what concern is mine?

2. In this workshop, I have no other work or gain; everything belongs to You, I possess no separate existence. I have no choice in coming or going into the world; there is nothing I can claim as my own. If I knew what I am in this workshop, what concern is mine?

3. He brought me forth from non-existence through His power of creation; He prepared my nourishment within the womb of my mother. With outward and inward sustenance, He nurtured me; I became a veil to the manifestation of His beauty. If I knew what I am in this workshop, what concern is mine?
