The Philosophy of Balanced Living

Hacı Bektaş Velî’s teachings are like a compass, guiding individuals towards balance between worldly struggles and spirituality. It encourages accepting the ups and downs of life and progressing with patience. Supported by the example of our Prophet (peace be upon him), this philosophy encourages both meeting one’s material needs and focusing on spiritual development; because human existence is a process filled with difficulties and prone to new trials at every moment.

The Essence of Faith: Sincerity and Intention

It is emphasized that true faith is not limited to vocabulary. Faith gains meaning when it is put into action; it materializes by turning from what is forbidden to what is permissible, and from worldly pleasures to spiritual peace. In Bektaşi thought, believing is not only about performing religious obligations but also encompasses sincerity and intention. Staying away from hypocrisy and ostentation in every deed is an important element that reveals the true face of faith; because the Exalted God looks at hearts and knows intentions.

The Steps of Sharia: From Knowledge to Morality

In Hacı Bektaş Velî’s teachings, sharia is the foundation of faith and represents the steps of a ladder. The first step on this ladder is placing faith in the heart; then comes learning knowledge to try to understand the right path. Prayers, fasting, zakat (charity), are concrete applications of sharia and lead people to moral maturity. Earning through lawful means, entering into marriage, adhering to cleanliness, and following the Sunnah (Prophet’s tradition) are other important steps on this ladder; because a moral life provides both worldly success and salvation in the hereafter.

The Journey of Sufism: Repentance and Humility

Progressing on the path of Sufism, reaching the stations of the Sufi order, is a kind of inner purification process. The first step in this process is to turn away from past mistakes with sincere repentance; because repentance allows one to be reborn. Following repentance, feelings of submission, acceptance and gratitude bring peace to the soul. As Hacı Bektaş Velî taught, even apologizing once for seventy years of sins can attract divine forgiveness; this demonstrates the importance of humility and hope.
