**Fourth Article**

[13/b] It describes the conditions and signs of the Resurrection, the blowing of the trumpet, earthquakes, and the distress of people at that time, how all created beings will perish and disappear, and how the heavens will be destroyed.

O esteemed one! Know that only hadith scholars are in agreement on this point: The conditions and signs of the Resurrection are two kinds. Some are hidden signs, and others are manifest signs. [417]

Hidden Signs: The absence of respect, love, compassion, propriety, modesty, generosity, faithfulness to promises, truthfulness, peace of mind, preservation of friendships, and the failure to fulfill religious commands in people. A decrease in fear of Allah, the non-implementation of Shari'ah rulings. An increase in mosques in cities but a small congregation; the rising of buildings, the thinness of clothing, women and children taking over governance. Women aspiring to resemble men, and men aspiring to resemble women, the prevalence of homosexuality and lesbianism, a decrease in abundance of sustenance, the cessation of visits between relatives, a decline in adherence to religious rulings in transactions, the rise of evildoers' esteem, the dishonoring and belittling of the righteous. The bearing of children by female slaves, much bloodshed, increasing anarchy and turmoil, and the beautification of graves—these are what are also called the conditions of the Resurrection.

As for the manifest signs of the Resurrection, there are ten of them. [418]

1-The emergence of the Deceiver (Dajjal).

2-Three consecutive eclipses of the moon.

3-A famine lasting three years in various regions.

4-A great smoke enveloping all places.

5-The descent of Jesus (peace be upon him) from the fourth layer of heaven onto the white minaret of Sham, killing the Deceiver and acting according to the religion of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

6-The emergence of al-Mahdi, a descendant of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), ruling justly for forty years, then departing and finding Jesus (peace be upon him).

7-The emergence of Dabbat al-Ard.

8-Ya'juj and Ma'juj emerging from Alexander’s barrier and conquering the earth.

9-Jesus (peace be upon him) coming to Mecca and migrating to the afterlife there. After that, the Noble Kaaba will be destroyed.

10-The sun rising in the west and beginning to ascend from there.

After the conditions and signs of the Resurrection mentioned here appear, a wind blows with a fragrance like musk and amber, pure and sweet. The souls of believers fly away on that wind towards their stations. After this, the rulings of the Noble Qur'an disappear from the earth. All people remain in ignorance, and this continues for a hundred years.

The scholars of Tafsir are also in agreement that after this point reaches, the Exalted One commands Israfil (peace be upon him) to blow the trumpet. When the trumpet is blown, all the angels in the seven heavens and all living beings on earth fall prostrate, thinking the Resurrection has come, and become unconscious. A tremor and shaking seize the heavens and the earth; stars are scattered, people’s hair and beards turn white, pregnant women give birth prematurely. All people lose their senses and remain as if intoxicated. This is the first blowing of the trumpet, by which all created beings are filled with fear. It continues for forty years.

Then the Exalted One commands Israfil (peace be upon him) to blow the trumpet again, and in the second blowing, Israfil (peace be upon him) blows with such force that mountains are torn from their places and scattered like “thrown heaps of colored cotton.” [419] The seven heavens shatter and melt like water, pouring onto the earth. The waters of the seas are drawn back, and the earth becomes dry. The light of the sun and moon is withdrawn and becomes black. Darkness covers the universe; all creatures and angels from above the Exalted Throne to the lowest depths perish. Only eight of the closest angels (mala’ika al-muqarrabin) remain. The first four are Gabriel, Michael, Ridwan, and Azrael. The other four are the bearers of the throne, one of whom is Israfil.

Then Azrael (peace be upon him), by the command of the Exalted One, takes the souls of the other seven angels. Then, as he takes his own soul, he emits a cry so loud that its sound surpasses the seven heavens and reaches the depths of the earth. At that moment, every living being tastes death and perishes. No one remains who has not tasted death in both worlds, except the Exalted One, the Forgiving. [420]

This universe remains like desolate, empty, and friendless ruins for forty years. Then the Exalted One asks with His majesty, “Whose is sovereignty this day?” [421] Since no one exists in the universe other than Himself, He answers Himself, "It belongs to Allah, the Single One, who overcomes all things." [422]
