The Quest for Similarity and a Sense of Belonging
In the works of Mevlânâ Celaleddin Rûmî, there is a profound understanding of every element in the realm of existence seeking to merge with its own kind. This applies not only to humans but also to all creatures and objects; just as water does not mix with oil, there is an environment, a type, where every living being feels at home. Similarity is also important in human relationships; friendships are built on shared values and understanding. However, Mevlânâ emphasizes the importance of transcending the boundaries of this sense of belonging and respecting differences, because true virtue is only possible by being able to move beyond our own selves.
Grace and a State of Selflessness
The concept of grace plays an important role in Mevlânâ’s teachings as a means for humans to transcend themselves. This grace takes the person out of their self and carries them into a greater consciousness unity, eliminating individual boundaries and endowing them with a universal feeling of love and compassion. The state of selflessness emerges with the melting of the ego, which allows the human being to meet true love. This is a reflection of the submission and humility often emphasized in Mevlânâ’s teachings; because those who receive grace should act with gratitude and dedicate themselves to a greater purpose.
The Intoxication of Love and Attaining Truth
Mevlânâ’s understanding of love, which transcends the limits of reason and excites the heart, helps humans grasp the truth. The intoxication of love goes beyond worldly pleasures and enables awakening with a divine consciousness. In this process, the person begins to see themselves and their surroundings with a different eye; they perceive beauty more intensely and develop sensitivity to suffering. Mevlânâ states that in this journey of love, one may sometimes experience bewilderment or confusion; but what is important is finding the right path under the guidance of love; because truth is seen with love’s eyes and felt with the heart.
