Concerning the attributes and conditions of the angels at the Sidrah of Lote Tree, the colors and invocations of the Tāwūs (peacock) that is the rooster of the Throne, [6/a] Know that the scholars of Tafsir and Hadith are in agreement on this matter: Allah, Exalted be He, created the angel appointed to the Sidrah of Lote Tree with a tremendous stature and a form that would astonish those who behold it. It possesses seventy faces, each face having seventy mouths, and each mouth possessing seventy tongues. Each of these tongues constantly praises Allah, Exalted be He, in a different language. Allah, Exalted be He, created four thousand ranks of angels at the Sidrah. In each rank are ten thousand angels arranged in rows.

The angels in the first rank remain perpetually in prostration, reciting “SubhanAllah” (Glory to Allah). Those in the second rank sit constantly, reciting "Alhamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah). The angels standing in the third rank continuously perform rukū’ (bowing), reciting “Lā ilāha illallah” (There is no god but Allah). The angels who remain steadfast in qiyām (standing) in the fourth rank remember Allah by saying, "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest).

The Exalted One created a great pillar shaped like emerald minarets at the Sidrah of Lote Tree, extending seventy thousand miles above it. At the top of this pillar He created a magnificent dome of pure white pearl. Upon that dome, He created an astonishing angel adorned with the colors of various jewels in the form of a peacock. It has five hundred wings; each wing possesses one hundred thousand feathers. On each feather are written three lines in green ink.

The first line reads: “Bismillāhirrahmānirrahīm” (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful). The second line reads: "Lā ilāha illallah Muhammadun rasūlullah" (There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger). The third line reads: “Kullu shay’in hālikun illā wajhahu” (Everything will perish except His Face) [Qur'an 28:88]. This is the rooster of the Throne; when it spreads its wings, blessings descend upon the inhabitants of Paradise by permission of Allah, like springtime rains. When the time for the five daily prayers arrives, this rooster beats its wings and begins to crow. Each feather emits a different sound. These sweet melodies stir the branches of the trees of Paradise like the southern wind (saba). From its voice, the hūrīs (virgins) and servants in Paradise rejoice and raise their heads from their chambers, proclaiming to one another: “The time for prayer has come for the Ummah of Muhammad (peace be upon him); they are all now engaged in worship.”

Allah, Exalted be He, asks the rooster of the Throne: "O bird! Why do you cry out?" The angel in the form of a bird replies: "O Allah! As Your believing servants on earth turn to You in worship, I beseech You for mercy upon them." At that time, Allah, Exalted be He, addresses the crying angel and says: “O bird! I shall have mercy upon your servants who perform the five daily prayers in this world and deliver them from the fire of Hell, and grant them benefit from the delights of Paradise, and be well-pleased with them.”

Thus, the rooster of the Throne is pleased by Allah’s address.

Allah, Who created the universe with His limitless power, is far removed from all imperfection. He has created all the universes in unparalleled beauty according to His wisdom. With His boundless knowledge, He encompasses everything and counts every single thing.
