The Sixth Point
The Gnostic, secure and free from fear and sorrow, declares that his heart is joyful with communion and tranquility.
Beloved! It should be known that the friends of God have said: He who knows his Lord is freed from affliction; for affliction becomes honey to him, he experiences no sorrow. The Gnostic has good relations with Reality, therefore his relationships with people are also good; for everyone appears beloved and excusable in his eyes. The Gnostic has dedicated his body and soul as a gift to his Lord, having surrendered the dominion of the world to its true Owner and withdrawn himself from it. Thus he attains the degree of nearness (proximity) to Reality.
The Gnostic surrenders his heart to his Lord, his soul to His afflictions, and dedicates his body for service to creation in order to attain ease and contentment. The Gnostic's dealings with Reality are not according to the desires and ambitions of people; rather, his relationships with people are in accordance with the pleasure of God.
All the desires of the Gnostic vanish, so that he has no requests concerning the world. For the light of knowledge descends into his heart, leaving no room for anything other than God. Once having attained this station, it is not seen for the Gnostic to descend from his state of perfection; for one who has arrived in the presence of Reality does not remain behind a veil.
If people knew how insignificant the Gnostic considers himself, how would they kiss his hand? Perhaps they would spit upon his face and cast dust upon his head. The Gnostic is called a Gnostic because he knows what others do not know, and has awareness of that which they are unaware. If but a particle from the sun of knowledge born in the Gnostic’s heart were to shine into the heart of an ascetic, the ascetic would be unable to bear it and would perish.
Poem
The ecstatic could not contain himself within his house, nor within the world;
Had he been as aware as the Gnostic, regarding its subtleties and nuances.
One sign of the Gnostic is that his sweat is more fragrant than musk and amber.
Another sign of the Gnostic is that when he turns his face towards you, he looks at you with such devotion that it seems as if he sees no one else and knows nothing but you; and when he turns away from you, he does so as if he had not seen or known you at all. As was the case with the Exalted Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who while conversing and being familiar with his household, would rise instantly upon hearing the call to prayer, as if he were not in their company.
The Gnostic’s tongue speaks only of remembrance of God. His heart is faithful in the love of God, and his secret is eternally devoted to Him. The Gnostic's heart does not sleep, nor does it incline towards anything other than God; for his soul has found pleasure in the pains of love, and is filled with the sorrow of that longing. He knows that his heart is precious and revered in the sight of the Beloved God. How then can he be negligent and sleep through the nights?
A soul which has transcended creation and ascended to higher realms has felt the wind of spiritual nearness (proximity) to God, has arrived at a gathering of communion and tranquility. How can that soul be unmindful of God, how can it incline towards people?
Verse
1- Know yourself in this world, be both praiser and praised;
You are the essence of two worlds, the ultimate goal.
2- Spend your precious life for noble purposes;
Abandon existence on the path of love and devotion.
3- He who drinks the wine of love becomes intoxicated and loses himself;
What a sweetness of soul, what a delightful wine of the Beloved!
4- He who drinks the wine of unity loves humility;
He prostrates and bows to every particle with a heartfelt devotion.
5- Whoever witnesses the unity of this existence,
Is both witness and witnessed in both worlds eternally.
6- The saint accepts the decrees of his station;
The one secure in unity preserves boundaries within multiplicity.
7- He loves all creation as does the One God;
That man of unity and compassion is blessed and fortunate.
